For the past five years, I have spent my summer holidays in salty-air Salento, the region at the heel tip of Italy’s boot. I had a well-oiled routine made up of lazing at the beach (Salento has some of the best beaches on mainland Italy, such as the crystalline waters of Punta Prosciutto) and overindulging in authentic Italian home cooking.

Last summer however, I decided to venture a little further and explore the hidden charms of Puglia, beyond wine tasting in the various masserie.
